ToxiCity: Version 0.16.0 Released - Developer Transitions to Honey Select 2 Studio
ILSProductions has released ToxiCity version 0.16.0, pushing out new content for the horror-tinged harem visual novel alongside a significant production change: the studio is transitioning its entire rendering pipeline from Honey Select 1 to Honey Select 2 Studio.
A New Visual Toolset
The move to HS2 is the headline for this release. In the accompanying dev notes, ILSProductions was refreshingly candid about what that means in practice:
“For renders/animations, we are now using Honey Select 2 Studio. While I won’t say we were experts with HS1, we were good enough to knock out 8–900 renders and 30+ animations in a month with it, so making the jump to a new program is going to take some time to learn. Sure they share a similar UI, but there’s a fair number of plugins and mods that are different or don’t exist in the new Studio, so we’ve had to figure out how to make the same experience through a different means. A bit of on-the-job training.”
HS2 brings noticeably better lighting, character fidelity, and animation quality over its predecessor. The short-term tradeoff in output speed is acknowledged upfront, and the long-term payoff for visual quality should be clear once the team is fully up to speed.
