Renryuu: Ascension v26.05.06 Released

Naughty Netherpunch has pushed version 26.05.06 of Renryuu: Ascension, continuing the date-versioned release cadence that has kept this sprawling fantasy RPG ticking over for years. With a thread number in the single digits on the community it launched on, Renryuu is one of the oldest continuously-developed adult visual novels still in active production — and the updates keep coming.

The May 6 patch irons out a tactical wrinkle in the combat system. According to the changelog, “effects are now removed from the party when you enter a vanguard battle” — a fix that brings consistency to the game’s layered turn-based encounters and matters most for players deep into the late-game strategy content.

For anyone who hasn’t dipped into Renryuu, it follows Ryen, a half-human, half-dark-elf prince managing a kingdom, building relationships with a cast that spans monster girls, elves, and human companions, and fighting his way through tactical RPG battles. The scope is enormous: the game encompasses harem routes, pregnancy, management systems, corruption arcs, and dozens of characters — all rendered in hand-drawn 2D CG with animations.

The 26.05.xx update series has kept a brisk pace throughout early 2026. The game runs on Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android, with free downloads available on itch.io. Development is funded through SubscribeStar, where supporters access builds and dev updates ahead of public release.
