Night of Revenge: HELLGATE Update
Night of Revenge “HELLGATE: Descent Into Darkness” — NoXeKeeper’s dungeon-crawling horror mod built on the Night of Revenge framework — has a new build out as of August 14, keeping the side-scrolling nightmare fresh for returning players.
The update tweaks how the game’s danger rooms populate each run. Instead of a fixed layout, the level generator now varies encounters more aggressively, said to “randomly choose only 3 of them every time the map resets” — a change aimed at cutting down on repetitive runs and keeping players on edge with less predictable threats each time they die and restart.
Also included in this patch is a critical heads-up for anyone booting the game fresh. NoXeKeeper’s notes are blunt about it:
“Once you see the Unity splash screen, do NOT click anything or press any keys. Just wait for the main menu to load completely. If you click, Windows might flag the game as ‘Not Responding’ and crash it.”
It’s a small but important warning — impatient clicking during the loading sequence has apparently been enough to tank the game for some players, so anyone updating should let the splash screen sit untouched before diving into the main menu.
HELLGATE carries over the core Night of Revenge DNA: 2D side-scrolling combat and platforming laced with horror, corruption, and bondage themes, wrapped around a randomized dungeon structure that punishes careless exploration. With this build’s spawn variety changes, repeat runs should feel noticeably less scripted.

The game is available for Windows.
